Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “bayağı sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bandajlanmasıyla oluşan endamsız polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit madun birimi barındırır). Anayasa nüans peptitlerin endamsız, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, özge amino asite devamlı, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bandajlanır. Polipeptid dokumasına merhametsizlan amino asitlerin her biri dokumaya peptid bandajlarıyla bandajlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir deniz çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine merhametsizlan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, özgür amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin özge ucundaki özgür α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
